Outside
A blackbird shrieks the sun is up again;
Grey clouds defend the lack of any stars;
Appointments creak reluctantly from cars;
The HVAC rumbles roughly. Nothing's changed.
The breakfast trolley shakes itself from rest;
Machines attempt to summon help with bleeps;
Fresh nurses cackle snorers from their sleeps,
The lucky ones are told they can get dressed;
Calm visitors make space to hang their coats
On finding relatives have gone for scans;
Bright clocks imply a future full of plans;
Kind databases offer helpful notes;
A nervous patient learns they're in remission;
The cleaners hold back, waiting for permission.
