Happy

It's not my job to make you happy.
Not if your day has been really crappy
Or a customer had a go at you
Or the weather's shit or you just feel blue.
Or a queue of tractors got in your way
Or someone's just pissed you off today.

Happiness is a bonus feature
That comes to only receptive creatures.
Derived from confidence and lack of pain,
It's a balance of personal sunshine and rain;
A simplification of all the complexities
That unrestrained would push you to your knees.

It's not worth seeking happiness.
Don't hunt it down or get obsessed:
If happiness is your only goal
You'll die while the hunt consumes your soul
And never see happiness at all,
Just crazy screaming as you fall, you fall
From the joyous potential of dark despair
To despair itself. I'll meet you there.
