Just Desert
The desert is a mystery to you,
How anyone can work or live out there
And breathe without your leafy English air.
Now suddenly this time you're flying too.
Keep close to me, I'll take you all the way:
You'll feel the sand, so fine it's in your brain,
On cloudy mornings fantasise for rain,
Unwind by shopping every single day,
Join crowds of bored weekenders on the streets,
And lonely drinkers cornered in the bar
Caressing pints and playing on their phones,
Kick cats aside, drink mocktails near the beach,
Indulge in slating locals from afar,
Express how it's all better back at home.
