I think you know what I've been practising for;
What thoughts I suppress with goodbyes at your door;
Why other best friends have been drifting away;
The reason I choke when you wish I were gay.
We thought I'd reformed but I'd hardly evolved;
Now understand why with you I felt so old;
Devoted too much to a pointless pursuit;
Still have a slight nag that it didn't bear fruit.
They'll never know everything. Anyway, some
Are happy in ignorance: my little fun
Would only contaminate me, bride and groom
And what will be sealed way up north sometime soon.
